Traditional Headshots vs. Lifestyle Portraits: What’s the Difference?
You may be wondering how traditional headshots differ from lifestyle portraits. While both serve a professional purpose, they vary in style, setting, and the way they are captured.
Traditional headshots require professional studio lighting and are highly posed, typically focusing on a head-and-shoulders crop against a clean background. In contrast, lifestyle portraits are taken in a more natural environment—such as your workspace or desk—using natural light for a relaxed and approachable feel.
In the examples below, we chose a backdrop that reflected the company's personality, using studio lighting to illuminate both the branded vinyl wall and the subject. While the clients opted for strong, confident, and welcoming poses for LinkedIn and their website, that didn’t stop them from having fun during the session! Their playful energy made for a dynamic and enjoyable shoot.
Who Are Traditional Headshots Best For?
Since setting up mobile studio lighting takes time, traditional headshots are ideal for businesses with teams of 10 or more looking for a consistent, streamlined ‘Meet the Team’ style of portraits.
